STORIES

Mufasa (2007) is soooo smart.  Within 2 days he understood “his room” (a large pillow in our family room), “go to bed” (his crate in our bedroom). He will sit and stay until given the “okay” command.  He goes to the sandbox I built in his kennel to go potty and sleeps through the night without accidents in his crate.  He also sits down when any of the outside doors are opened and stays until we say it’s “okay” for him to follow us out.  When he comes inside, he sits down just inside the door and raises his paw so we can wipe his feet with a towel.

He did snap at my face…once.  I flipped him over, grabbed his throat (without actually hurting him) and growled … he hasn’t bitten or snapped at anyone’s face since.

He loves to chew his toys, but we haven’t had any furniture or shoes or anything else for that matter that he has gone after.  His monkey, which makes ape like sounds, set him back at first but now is an “I’ll shake you to pieces monkey-boy” toy.

He has been in human eyesight almost 24/7 since he got here.  If he is up and exploring, we are right there with him to help him understand the do’s and don’ts.  It’s been what we expected and are already certain it’s worth the investment to assure he is great member of the family.

We have the best dog I could have ever imagined.  And I’m not too proud to say. He is absolutely handsome, well behaved and exactly the temperament that I wanted.

Bella (2005) is such a cool dog. She looks GREAT!  Very athletic. … she’s good if you can keep her occupied with exercise and toys.  Twice a day she and her pal, Jim, get to do farm chores with me.  I made her watch for several months to make sure she had enough size and speed to take care of herself before I mixed her with the equine.  Now it is official, Bella is a farm dog!  She makes the rounds on all of the farm chores, mixing freely with the 2 horses, 2 donkeys and the big mule, Nellie.  One of the donkeys schooled her not to eat their leftovers until they were finished, a kick to the shoulder and now she finds something else to do while they eat. She can’t resist chasing the guinea and chickens when they run from her, but we are working on it.  She had issues coming down the stairs in the barn for a while, but she finally got tired of watching everything happen from the loft.  Each time she goes to the pond she ventures out a little further.  No worries getting wet and dirty.  At first she ran the other way when I cranked the 4-wheeler or tractor, but now she follows along with Jim.  She goes to all of the parties and has many dog pals she gets to visit on a regular basis.  She travels very well in the truck.  She sleeps in her crate, and sometimes shares it with the calico cat.  She also has brother & sister cats that have taught her not to be so rough playing or they will whip out the swords. This is the most cohesive all of my animals have been at one time and I was worried at first about introducing what I knew would be “a lot of dog”.  But Bella is blending very well and I know as she gets older she will only get better.

Sienna (2005) - I just love her to death.  She is a good dog, excellent temperament and full of energy.  Sienna is a part of our family. …. she learns really fast!  She is people and dog friendly and an excellent watch dog.  Sienna is also very affectionate.  I have quite a few family members and friends who come over, and my son dog sits for us when we go out of town.  She does really well and responds well to commands…. people are amazed that she does just about everything I tell her to do!

Lion's Head Kimba, 2002

...one day a man jumped out from behind a parked car, picked up one of the neighbor's kids, and started to run off with the child. Kimba was about 8 months old, and started to chase after the man. Turns out the man knew the kid, and did return the child, but ever since then, Kimba has not liked that man.

Lion's Head Daegon 2002

I just wanted to tell you that Daegon is doing really well again in school, looks like he got rid of his little attitude problem. I call it his Daegon "moments" . He has lost so many teeth in the last couple of weeks, I think he may have just been a little tense from the pain. He is getting ready to graduate from his Level 1 class and he is the top student! YIPEE!! I was so worried because we work so hard together, I thought I was doing something wrong, but with a lot of heart, and consistency we made it...and his trainer was blown away. She said she was used to the dogs doing that but around 8 months rather than 5, but she said he is doing extremely well…. I had to brag. We have learned all the basics and some off-leash training.

Malekia (2005) is the daughter of Nthombe and, like Nthombe, loves children. She has the best time playing on the trampoline. Yes, really!  She runs, jumps up onto the trampoline and bounces with the kids.
